Initial Appointment and Subsequent Appointments

A Naturopathic Visit
The goal of Dr. Reina Persaud, ND is to understand you, the patient and all the factors that impact your health. Your initial appointment can last up to 2 hours. Dr. Persaud, ND will take an in-depth patient history that includes your medical and family history, nutritional intake, stress levels, and daily lifestyle and exercise regime. In addition, the information from a full physical exam (head to toe, as well as internal exams, if required) and laboratory tests may assist in making an assessment and diagnosis. A personal treatment plan will then be proposed to help facilitate your healing process. Naturopathic treatments can be combined with conventional medical treatments. There may be follow-up visits, though the frequency would depend on the severity of the case. Usually consequent visits can be up to an hour and can include chronic as well as acute conditions.
It is common to find Dr. Persaud, ND working with other health professionals such as medical doctors, chiropractors, massage therapists and midwives. If you need to get in touch with Dr. Persaud, ND at anytime, she will return your phone call within 24 hours to address your concerns.
Assessment and Diagnostic Services

ABO Blood Typing
This is to aid in determining blood types for diet and lifestyle factors. Blood groups are any of several immunologically distinct, genetically determined classes of human blood that are based on the presence or absence of antigens and are clinically identified by characteristic agglutination reactions. Anti-A and Anti-B sera is used to determine blood group based on an antibody/antigen reaction, which results in a distinctive agglutination reaction.
Blood type testing is used to determine whether a person falls into the A, B, AB or O blood groups. Two methods of sample collection are possible. The sample may either be collected in a blood draw from a vein into an anti-coagulated blood tube or from a capillary puncture. Capillary punctures are the least invasive and can be done with ease.
Adrenal Stress Profile
This test measures an individual's ability to adapt to different stress. Dr. Persaud will test your adaptability to emotional, mental, physiological and environmental stress. With these results she will customize a program suited to your needs.
The adrenal glands are located near the kidneys and produce many hormones. If this gland is dysfunctional, you may experience some or many of the following symptoms: chronic stress, anxiety, fatigue, weakness, dizziness, depression, poor memory, sweet cravings, headaches, migraine headaches, low body temperature, low sex drive, and low blood pressure.
Bioimpedance Analysis
A Bioimpedance Analyzer is used to electronically measure body composition. Body composition analysis is the clinical assessment of tissue and fluid compartments in the human body. A normal distribution of tissue and fluid in the body is associated with immunity, high function, and longevity. An abnormal distribution of tissue and fluid in the body is associated with susceptibility, effects of disease and aging, low function, morbidity, and mortality.
Food Allergy Testing
Many foods and liquids we ingest today contain additives, preservatives, forms of insecticides and pollution. Others use genetically altered plants. These changes in diet are to blame for the increase of food allergies. A simple blood test will show what your blood is intolerant to; another method is the muscle testing technique. Often a change of diet is called for to decrease or eliminate these foods, which will create incredible, positive changes.
Here are some of the symptoms you may experience when allergic to foods: gas, diarrhea, vomiting, loss of appetite, ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, weight gain, low back and/or joint pain, rheumatoid arthritis, headaches, migraines, depression, fatigue, anxiety, wheezing, coughing, asthma, recurrent bronchitis, chronic infections, acne, canker sores, eczema and rashes.
Diabetes Profile
The diabetes profile tests the glucose and insulin levels in your blood. Glucose comes from the food you eat; insulin transports the glucose into your body's cells from your blood. If there is a lack of insulin or it doesn't function properly, high blood glucose levels will be the result.
If you find yourself with these symptoms you should be tested: persistent thirst, you urinate frequently, feel tired, have blurred vision, and/or have frequent vaginal yeast infections.
Hair Elemental Analysis
There are enormous amounts of toxins in our environment. From the air we breathe to the foods we eat - we are surrounded by it. A hair elemental analysis offers a solid assessment of the toxicity levels in your body. With these results Dr. Persaud, ND will be able to offer you vitamins and minerals that your body is deficient in while aiding in eliminating the toxins in your body.
Parasite Profile
Parasites are transmitted through contaminated food and water. Parasites are prevalent today because of increased world travel. For those who have ever picked up a foreign parasite, you know that you can be ill for a very long time. With the knowledge that a foreign parasite is living in your system, Dr. Persaud, ND can then work towards removing the organism and boost your immune system.
Weight Management
Proper body composition is individual. Through pursuing naturopathic-based health care, an implicit objective is to reach and maintain a healthy weight. Dr. Persaud, ND will use the necessary resources to ensure that your diet and activity regime support your overall long-term health.
Women's Hormonal Assessment (fertility, dysmenorrheal, menopause):
This test will provide Dr. Persaud, ND with an overall view of your hormonal balance. This balance is linked to aging, disease, cardiac function, emotional health, immune function and breast cancer. It will measure estrogen, androgen, testoeterone and progesterone.
Zinc Tally
A functional test of zinc status in the human body. The Zinc tally test is based on the concept that a loss of taste can be due to a zinc deficiency. This test is based on taste acuity as a measure of zinc status. A person holds 5ml of Zinc sulfate heptahydrate solution in their mouth for a period of 10 seconds.
